Letter to the Editor Photo published was offensive The photo of dog statues dressed as the Holy Family (Mary, Joseph, Jesus and an angel) which was published in the Dec. 21, 2017 edition of the Oakville Beaver is shocking and disturbing to me as a Chris tian and I see this as a lack of respect for the Christian faith. I am surprised and disappointed that the Oakville Beaver printed this photo because it is disrespectful. Indeed, animals were present in the man ger at the time of Jesus, but I find it unac ceptable to see dogs dressed as Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the angel. We must be more respectful. I'm sure that a better and cuter picture of dogs with Santa and his reindeer or with snowmen would be more appropriate and still depict the spirit of the holidays. I belong to a group of over 100 women at an Oakville parish. Some members have contacted me to speak of their dismay and disappointment at such a lack of respect for the Christian religion, by ridiculing the Christmas manger with statues of dogs im personating the Holy Family. The Knights of Columbus are selling a beautiful sign of the manger to place on front lawns during this Christmas time and it reads: Keep Christ in Christmas. I am certain that the Knights will not see this dog scene as an authentic Christmas manger. This photo of dogs is not an indica tion of the spirit of the season and I find it offensive. Such a depiction of the Christmas man ger is unacceptable. Genevieve Poirier-Murphy, Oakville Editor's Note: The above letter references a pho to published in the Animal Tales feature of the Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 edition of the Oakville Beaver that was submitted by a local kennel busi ness outlining a holiday display members of its dog rescue operation had worked on and erected outside the business for the holidays. The Oakville Beaver sincerely regrets any of fence taken as a result of its publication of the photo. No ridicule, disrespect or offence was intended by the Beaver's publication documenting the lo cal business' display: Our sincere apologies that any was taken. 905 336-9636 | 200-481 JOHN ST.
