Police were called to the scene at around 10:30 a.m., following reports of a three-vehicle collision. The initial investigation revealed that a SUV was traveling westbound on Royal Windsor Drive when it crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound transport truck. The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Toronto man, was pronounced dead at the scene. One other person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third vehicle was struck as a result of the initial collision and forced off the roadway where it struck a utility pole. The accident created a large diesel spill, which Oakville firefighters and the Town of Oakville succeeded in containing to the roadway. The road was closed for approximately five hours for an investigation and the extensive clean up of wreckage and the fuel spill.
