NEWS Information Oakville diaper drive has a happy ending "The response has been amazing, I'm very proud of my team. I am incredibly proud o f P at and Joyce for visioning this and for their big hearts for our community . " -Information Oakville manager Marcus Logan Nikki Wesley/Metroland Information Oakville (Oakville Public Library) Manager Community Information Marcus Logan, Data Collection Assistant Joyce Bissonnette, and Community Information Database Assistant Pat Ramsden donate a mountain of diapers to Safetynet Children and Youth Charities represented by Founder and Executive Director Bill Shields at their new warehouse location. MARTA MARYCHUK mmarychuk@oakvillebeaver.com Happy Endings Diaper Drive has ended with a very happy ending - after Information Oakville col lected more 4,325 diapers, in addition to 1,036 baby wipes, training pants and 112 pairs of new underwear. "The response has been amazing," said Informa tion Oakville Manager Marcus Logan. Logan and his team, Joyce Bissonnette and Pat Ramsden, organized the di aper drive for local charity SafetyNet Children and Youth Charities, which provides families in need with clothing, diapers, tu toring and music. "I am incredibly proud of Pat and Joyce for vision ing this and for their big hearts for our community," added Logan in an email. Information Oakville has close relationships with nonprofit organiza tions in the community, through its Community Services Database, and that's how Logan says they found out that SafetyNet founder Bill Shields was moving to a new location and wasn't able to run his program for families in need. Ramsden came to Logan with the idea for the diaper drive. Diapers are very expen sive to buy, she explained, and it can be very stressful for new mothers who can't afford to buy diapers and try to reuse the ones they already have. "There is an ongoing need," added Ramsden. The team at Informa tion Oakville designed a poster for the Happy End ings Diaper Drive and put out a "soft ask" to friends and colleagues, including colleagues at the Oakville Public Library system, which Logan describes as amazing. Through its connec tions in the community, In formation Oakville was able to connect Safety Net with Straight to the Streets, a nonprofit organi zation that helps homeless people in Halton, Hamilton and Toronto. Straight to the Streets purchased diapers and more expensive products for SafetyNet with leftover Shoppers Drug Mart opti mum points. And staff from Lighthouse for Griev ing Children also helped out with the diaper drive. On Wednesday, Dec. 20, Information Oakville de livered a mountain of new diapers and underwear to Safety Net, which has found a new location and has moved to 482 South Ser vice Rd. E., Oakville. "I'm very proud of my team," Logan added.
