NEWS Wilson was a beloved, 2 3 -year Town employee Andrew C ollins photo Halton police attend 1343 Sheldon Ave., following the death of Judy Wilson in September 2015. The victim 's son Ryan Porte has been charged w ith second degree m urder in connection w ith her death. • Continued from page 1 weeks and see more than a dozen witnesses take the stand. On the evening of Sep tember 21, 2015, Halton po lice said they responded to 1343 Sheldon Ave. after re ceiving a call from a man who said there was a dead woman in the house. Offi cers found Wilson without vital signs. Emergency personnel attempted to revive the woman using CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police claim they iden tified Porte as the caller and noted he remained at the home until officers a r rived. They claim no one else was in the home at the time of the incident. Porte was arrested and charged with second-de gree murder. A report issued by the coroner's office said Wil son died as a result of man ual strangulation. Police also confirmed both the victim and the ac cused were living inde pendently at the Sheldon Avenue residence. Shortly after the wom an's death, the Town of Oakville confirmed Wil son had been a town bylaw enforcement officer and chair of Oakville's proper ty standards committee. She worked for the Town of Oakville for a to tal of 23 years, from 1986 until her retirement in 2009. "This is a difficult time for staff who knew her," said Lesley Patel, commu nications adviser with the office of the mayor and council in 2015. Wilson's death prompt ed flags at town facilities to be lowered to half-mast as well as a statement from Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "I am deeply saddened by the loss of retired Town of Oakville employee and community member Judy Wilson," he said. "After serving 23 years in the areas of parking, by law enforcement and li censing with the town, she continued doing commu nity work, presently serv ing as chair of the proper ty standards committee. Her dedication and en thusiasm to Oakville was compelling. Judy touched the lives of many of our staff and community members. She will be greatly missed." January 15 saw the se lection of the jury for Porte's trial, which is made up of seven men and five women. Two alternate jurors, one man and one woman, were also chosen. The trial was set to con tinue this week with Miller's opening instruc tions to the jury and Jago's opening statement. The Crown was expected to be gin presenting evidence Tuesday. Among that evidence is a recording of a 911 call made from the Sheldon Avenue home and witness accounts of alleged utter ances made to police.
