Studio preserves open spaces (Continued from page 40) and art history majors on the mezza nine and ground floors, as well as two dedicated installation areas that approximate a professional gallery setting. The building's warehouse studio design theme is reflected in bare con crete floors and plywood walls, offer ing raw, unpainted surfaces on which students can tack work. The feeling of open spaces is preserved throughout. Annie Smith, for whom the centre was named, was among the speakers at the opening ceremonies. Smith, an award-winning educator, founded the joint Art and Art History joint program between Sheridan and the U of T, which enriches learning experiences and expands career options for students from both institu tions. Today, graduates from the program work as professional artists, museum curators, public and private gallery directors, and educators. Students attend courses concurrent ly at both learning institutions and graduate with both a B. A from the U of T and a diploma in Art and Art His tory from Sheridan.
