Dr. John Nattress Local dentist ran downtown practice for 32 years Dr. John A Nattress Dr. John A. Nattress, a dentist in downtown Oakville for 32 years, died on Friday at the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia. He was in his 60th year. Dr. Nattress, along with other profes sionals, helped form MEDENLAW in downtown Oakville in 1967, and con tinued running a downtown office until illness forced an early retirement five years ago. Dr. Nattress was bom in Sault Ste. Marie in 1939. His father was a dentist with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War and opened a practice on Lakeshore Road after the end of the war. As a child, Dr. Nattress attended Linbrook and Brantwood schools before returning to Richard's Landing in 1950. After completing high school in Sault Ste. Marie, he attended the University of Toronto where he was active in faculty revues, Hart House Glee Club and a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After graduating in 1964, Nattress served with the Royal Canadian Dental Corp in Winnipeg, the Gaza Strip with the UNEF, and Oakville. In 1966, he married his wife Marg, whom he met at the University of Toronto where she was a physiotherapy student. Marg worked for many years at the Oakville Trafalgar memorial Hospital and the Oakville Physiotherapy Centre. Dr. Nattress left the army in 1967 and helped form MEDENLAW on Church Street east of the Post Office building, where townhouses are now located. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Sandy, Craig and Sean. The family developed a love of ski ing and owned a chalet N and later a home N at Horseshoe Valley near Barrie. He also loved to sail, racing with friends in Oakville and cruising Georgian Bay on weekends. Dr. Nattress and his wife also enjoyed traveling N sailing in the south, skiing in the west, touring Europe, and a safari in Kenya. Dr. Nattress served with the Oakville United Way, was an elder at St. Paul's and was a representative on the Halton Church Extension Council for many years. Grand Opening, September 9th. His spe cial interest was student exchange and his family hosted five R o t a r y I n t e r n a t i o n a l exchange stu dents. He recently discovered his Scottish roots and attended the annual Hart House Robbie Bums dinners. A funeral ser-, vice was held at St. Paul's United Church at 2 p.m., t o d a y (Wednesday). L ife ca re ra lly S a tu rd a y More than 25 staff members of Lifecare Oakville and their friends will be cycling 50 kms on Sept. 11th to raise funds for their Residents Council. The sixth annual bike-a- thon starts at Lifecare on Lyons Lane in Oakville at 9 a.m. and continues along Lakeshore Road to the Burlington lift bridge. The same route home will see the cyclists return to Lifecare around 1 p.m. where they will be welcomed by residents, a band and a barbecue. The event also serves as a team building and fit ness activity for both the staff and the community. Riders obtain sponsorship from corporate and pri vate contributors and proceeds are given to the R e s i d e n t s Council which will decide how to spend the money within the home.
