Ontario semifinalists This past weekend, the Oakville Minor Baseball Association (OMBA) host ed the all-Ontario minor mosquito triple-A championship tournament and the Oakville A's were one of the strongest contenders coming into the final round. . .. Photos by Ron Kuzyk The A's bat tled against the finest teams from across the province and made it to the semifinal round before being eliminated in the double knockout tournament. Making it all the way to the final four in their first ever trip to the provincial cham pionships was quite an accom plishment for the team. The champi onship final was a rematch between last year's finalists but this time the Mississauga Tigers took the championship title away from the Kitchener Reps. The exciting final series saw Mississauga defeat Kitchener by a score of 5-2 in the first game and then by an 8-5 decision in the second game. The Oakville A's earned the right to be one of only eight teams to com pete for the Ontario Baseball Association's provincial cham pionships. With more than 40 teams vying for the title, four sepa rate tournaments were held two weeks ago to determine the top eight teams in the province that would meet in Oakville over the Labour Day weekend. Oakville went undefeated throughout the preliminary round in order to qualify for the provincial cham pionship. Oakville's first opponents at the champi onship tourna ment were the Guelph Royals. Oakville jumped out to a quick 2- 0 lead, but the Royals managed to come back to take a one run lead into the third inning.
