"There is that personal motivation to do some­ thing good and to feel you are contributing some­ thing because you do tend to feel helpless in these sit­ uations," said Fortino. "A lot of my friends are dealing with this because one in two Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. "That is a pretty stag­ gering statistic. It is something that affects everyone and while I don't expect to cure can­ cer with this event, if it helps one person feel bet­ ter for one day it will be worthwhile." The Galaxy Club event will feature an all-you-can- eat food station buffet, hors d'oeuvres, a dazzling light show with '80s and '90s mu­ sic and an open bar. Attendees can get their photos taken with '80s mov­ ie characters including he­ roes and villains from Ghostbusters, Star Wars and more. Fortino said a connec­ tion he has will even allow him to offer guests the op­ portunity to have their pic­ tures taken in their favou­ rite Hollywood cars from the '80s and '90s. These vehicles include the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard, KITT from Knight Rider, the car from Starsky and Hutch and a Jeep from Jurassic Park. Other features include a photo booth, a $300 prize for the best 80s costume, midnight poutine and Bea- verTails and a retro '80s ar­ cade. There will also be a SO- NOS speaker door prize and raffle prizes including TVs, trips, tickets and more. Fortino said he is still looking for companies to sponsor this coming event.
