C ouncil to o ffic ia lly answ er G len A bbey d e m o litio n request Feb. 12 NEWS The Town of Oakville's fight to save the Glen Ab bey Golf Course will con tinue this month with the town set to officially reply to a request to demolish the property. On Sept. 25, 2017 Glen Abbey Golf Course owner, ClubLink, announced that it had filed an application "under section 34 of the On tario Heritage Act to re move the golf course and demolish all buildings on the lands other than those that are proposed to be re tained under ClubLink's redevelopment proposal." The RayDor Estate House, which is currently leased to Golf Canada for its offices, the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Mu seum, and the stables would be spared. The golf giant is hoping to build 3,222 residential units including nine to 12- storey apartment build- ings on the Glen Abbey Golf Course property at 1333 Dorval Dr. The development plan would also see the con struction of 69,000 sq. ft of commercial/retail space and 107,000 sq. ft of office space. Many residents have voiced concerns about the loss of the golf course and the increase in traffic the development would bring to the area. By court order, the town has agreed to render a deci sion on the ClubLink de molition application. This decision will come before the Heritage Oak ville committee on Feb. 6 and the planning and de velopment council on Feb. 12. ClubLink's authority to bring this demolition ap plication forward is also the subject of litigation be tween the company and the town and a court hearing to determine the dispute will take place on July 16 and July 17. ClubLink has also ap pealed council's refusal to approve its development application to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) and an OMB pre-hearing on the matter will take place at town hall on April 27. Following ClubLink's is suing of its demolition ap plication the town desig nated the entire Glen Ab bey Golf Course as a prop erty of cultural value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act on Dec. 20. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton said this decision had been years in the mak ing noting that work on the Town's Cultural Heritage Landscape Strategy, which seeks to protect and pre serve local heritage icons, began in 2013. 905-319-7502 p o o l s f o r h o m e . c o m E N J O Y • P L A Y • RELAX BE AT H O M E 20 FOR ALL ♦20 Civic Council to officially answer Glen Abbey demolition request Feb. 12 poolsforhome.com
