HOCKEY 75 Locals shut out of finals at Sabatino hockey tournament KEVIN NAGEL knagel@burlingtonpost.com Three division champi­ ons were crowned at the 17th annual Frank Sabati­ no Memorial Hockey Tournament on the week­ end. Oakville teams reached some semifinals but didn't get to participate in any of the finals, which were held at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. In the peewee red/se- lect division, the Oakville Kings and Oakville St. Hil­ das Eagles lost 2-0 and 4-1, respectively, to Brampton MD1 and West End An­ tiques in semifinal play. West End went on to win the championship game 5-2 over Brampton. The Eagles were unde­ feated going into the semi­ finals (2-0-1) while the Kings won two of three preliminary round games. In the atom red/select division semifinals, the Oakville Ice Raiders were edged 3-2 by Peterborough Budd Wealth Manage­ ment, which went on to win the tournament with a 5-4 victory over the New­ market Redmen. The Raiders won all three of their preliminary games to qualify for the semifinals. The third division crown up for grabs, the peewee white, featured West London Hawks blanking the Beeton Sting­ ers 2-0. The tournament, which wrapped up on Sunday, is named after longtime mi­ nor hockey volunteer Frank Sabatino, who died at age 46 of leukemia in 2001.
