01 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, August 4, 1999 ve DOES YOUR CAR W AX GIVE YOU BETTER PROTECTION THAN YOUR CUT-RATE CAR INSURANCE? Don't trust just anyone to insure your car, see me: 337-5567 Hal Mayer 2861 Shcnvood D r 829-5200 Saturn advances to the next stage with the LS sedan Building on its remarkable success in the small car segment over the past nine years, Saturn is making a bold move. The automak er whose slogan is "A Different Kind of Company -- A Different Kind of Car" is living up to its words by launching its all-new mid-size 2000 LS sedans and LW wagons to do bat tle in North America's most highly competitive car market. To be introduced in its 63 Canadian retail facilities -- including Budds' Saturn Saab Isuzu, 507 Speers Rd., on Thursday, Aug. 5th, the new vehi cles "are expected to provide a natur al step up for many of Saturn's current owners and give Saturn retailers the opportunity to attract and satisfy a broader range of customers," says Chuck Novak, Saturn Canada brand manager. "Our custom ers' needs have changed over time, and we are chang ing to meet those needs. We had heard from many of them that they have been so pleased with their Satums that they wanted to stay with us, but that as their fam ilies were growing, they needed more room for people and cargo in their vehicles. These new mid-size models will provide that." Novak said that, 'T h e expansion of the product line is also essential to establishing Saturn as a bigger, stronger company." Saturn currently competes only in the small-car market segment, the largest in the country, accounting for 23% of all new vehicles sold. With the introduction o f the new L-Series, Saturn will now also compete in the second largest auto segment N and the most competitive N the mid-size mar ket, which accounts for 20% of all new car purchases in Canada. The mid-size segment is one of fierce competition, where the L-Series cars will go head-to-head with Toyota's Canary and Honda's Accord and the LW wagon will compete with import wagons from Volvo, Subaru and Audi, as well as Ford Taurus. • The sedan is available in three models, the LS (base price $20,075); the LSI ($22,440 and the LS2 Photos by Peter McCusker Front and rear views of the Saturn LS sedan available Thursday at Budds' Saturn Saab Isuzu, 507 Speers Rd. ($26,940). There are two wagons, the LW1 ($25,220) and the LW2 ($28,630). Launched in 1990 and in Canada in the fall of 1991, until now, Saturn pre viously offered only small cars -- SL1 and SL2 sedans, SCI and SC2 coupes and SW1 and SW2 wagons (introduced in 1992). Last fall marked the introduction of the Saturn SC, the world's first three-door coupe. "Saturn has always been an indus try leader in terms of innovation and safety and the L-Series stays true to these principles, as well as to Saturn's core values of quality, value and cus tomer enthusiasm," Novak says. "We also look at it this way N Saturn", a company famous for having parties and barbecues for its "family," just got a new member. We expect to see a lot of them join current Saturn owners at our Saturn Reunion '99, to be held across Canada, Sept. 11th and 12th." Novak says that, "The goal during the creation of the L-Series was to meet and surpass the demands of the mid-size buyer. That this goal was met is evident in the car and its features. But while the L-Series has a style all its own, it still remains distinctly Saturn with the signature headlamp and tail lamp designs and the Saturn- exclusive polymer body-side panels which resist dents and dings." Other L-Series features include an available V6 engine, anti-lock brakes, leather seating areas and one of the largest cargo capacities in its class. Also, the new LS and LW vehicles will showcase the same safety hall mark as the S-Series with features like a modified spaceframe, dual front reduced-force air bags and a safety belt system engineered to limit com pression loads on the chest. For extra piece of mind, the L-Series has an ignition theft deterrent system, stan dard on all models, and a remote key less entry system and content protec tion alarm, standard on all models except the base LS. A new feature on the L-Series is the unique oil-change status monitor, which alerts the driver when to change the oil, based on an individ ual's driving patterns. This system saves time and money by reducing the number of unnecessary oil changes. "At Saturn, we are committed to excel in providing customers with products and services that are world leaders in value and satisfaction," Novak says. "The Saturn retail experi ence, including the no hassle, no hag gle buying experience, consistently ranks at the top of independent con sumer surveys and now, with the LS sedan and LW wagon, we offer mid size customers the chance to experi ence the 'Saturn Difference.'" Night driving tips □ Avoid over driving your headlights. When an object becomes illumi nated by your headlights, you should be driving slow enough to stop your car safely without hitting it. □ : Make sure other drivers can see you. Keep your tail-lights, turn signals, and brake lights clean and in good working order. It only takes a moment to walk around the car to check these sys tems. Have some one sit inside the car to operate the lights, brakes and turn signals. Or it's easy to check yourself in an enclosed area. Use your high beams, but don't forget to dim them for on-com ing traffic or cars in front of you.
