Student employment directory published Pat Atkinson can‘t figure it out. The north Oakville woman has read stories about the plight of stuâ€" dents trying to find summer work, but no one seems to be too concerned . . .except the students themselves. Being frustrated at the response from the government to her idea for a student job directory that could be in every Oakville home, she decided to take on the project herself. The result is the ‘Select A Student Directory‘ â€" a booklet with the names and phone numbers of a variety of students offering specific services to the community. "There is a whole spectrum of job opportunities for students, but people who could use these services don‘t know who to call," said Atkinson. Atkinson went to the principals of White Oaks Secondary School, St. Ignatius of Loyola and T. A. Blakelock, with the idea of recruiting students and that has gone over very well. Depending on the success of this program, Atkinson said it could be expanded to include all the other high schools in Oakville. Need your walk shovâ€" elled in the winter? Look up a name of a student in your area willing to do the work. o Atkinson â€" an American with experience as a technical editor â€" hopes to have 10,000 of the indexed and saddleâ€"stitched booklets distributâ€" ed in June as the schools shut down for the summer. Atkinson has been soliciting busiâ€" ness and corporate support for her idea, but it has been tough slogging. But some organizations and individuâ€" als are coming forth to back the scheme. One such person is local real estate agent Dan Cooper who believes the book will help kids off the streets and is a more productive approach to helping students find work. ‘"The idea has great promise," said Cooper. Atkinson said students, parents, or those wishing to help back her idea, can reach her at 847â€"8309. NORCO KATMANDU GENESIS STEALTH cAicromo‘ TUNDRA MT.
