"River Oaks is a high flyer but 80% of what‘s going on there can be done with a lot less technology," Dave Katz, elementary services superintendent with the Halton Board of Education told trustees recently. Katz, along with his counterpart for the east area, Bob Parry, and River Oaks principal Gerry Smith, were at the board table presenting a status report on the north Oakville elementary school. â€" board measures an effective sChool, River Oaks rates high, said Parry. Monitored by the board, the ministry and York University, Parry said, "There‘s probably no other school in Halton which has so much visibility and constant monitoring as River Oaks." "From the outside, it looks like a regular school. Inside, it is a school of learners. It‘s been a while since I‘ve seen what I saw that day," she told felâ€" low trustees. Aside from all that, Burlington trustee Diane Leblovic described her recent visit there in glowing terms. "Computers are used as tools to drive the curriculum. Computers are secondary to what‘s happening in the school," Leblovic said.
