Weir, however, was among the first who said he would not support the Smithâ€"Triller Viaduct option, preferring instead the Abbey Oaks Bridge. The selection conjured memories of the contest to name the Town Square at George Street and Lakeshore Road which ended with "Towne Square" being chosen the winner. "Let‘s pick a name people will actually use," he said. While infinitely more imaginaâ€" tive, the bridge finalists ranged for 4x6 prints Tire Rotating from the obvious to the truly obscure. 19.95 â€" In addition to the winning entry and Weir‘s favored Abbey Oaks Bridge, the short list included River Glen Bridge, Unity Bridge, Unity Crossing and, last but not least, the Old Open Trussel Bridge. The Smithâ€"Triller Viaduct is the brainchild of resident William Gregg, who incorporated the surâ€" names of two of Oakville‘s earliest industrialists â€" Phillip Triller and Thompson Smith â€" who each owned mills in the valley on either side of the bridge site. Monastery Plaza plans expansion By CHERYL ELLIOT Special to the North News Monastery Plaza in Glen Abbey will have an additional eight units by the spring of 1994. The History Hill Group â€" the industrial and commercial division of Greenpark Homes â€" bought the vacant lot at the corner of Monastery Gate and Nottinghill Gate from ESSO three months ago. According to the president, Angelo Baldassarra, the Group is seeking Town of Oakville approval to build an 8,000â€" to 9,000â€" square foot extension to Monastery Plaza, at an estimated cost of $500,000. "The land is already zoned comâ€" mercial," said Baldassarra, "but we have to go through the channels to get the permit to build." The site was originally marked for a gas station, but community did not like it, added. The architecture of the extension will be in keeping with the original plaza which was built six years ago, said Baldassarra. So far, he has enquiries from prospective tenants for a restaurant, a video store, and a photo shop. Baldassarra said he would not lease the land in the interim for use as a basketball court, as suggested by Glen Abbey Residents Association (GARA) president, Stephen Klein, at a recent GARA meeting. He said he will start buildâ€" ing the plaza extension as soon as he receives Town of Oakville approval to proceed. The History Hill Group also owns two other plazas in Glen Abbey â€" one at Third Line and Upper Middle Road, and another at Heritage Way and Reeves Gate.
