ROAR president, Bob MciIntosh, determined the meeting would go on, picked a spot under a tree at the front of the school and set up shop. _Sunglasses Buy 1, Get 1 Savings Coupon Expires July 24/93 \ Aftemoons from 1 to 6 â€"@ k‘t\ï¬ï¬ Cover $5.00 309 Lakeshore Rd. E 540â€" 700C Sunday Viceâ€"President Sue Ramsayâ€" Roddick disagreed with McIntosh‘s decision to hold the meeting outâ€" doors, and left. Again, MciIntosh was undaunted. He declared that, according to bylaws of ROAR‘s constitution, five ROAR directors, Marlene Infelise, Paula Infelise, Jason Paikowsky, Bob Rose and Hal Zeisman, were no longer eligible to sit on the board, because they had missed three or more consecutive meetings. This now left a board of only nine directors. With five of them present, McIntosh declared he had a quorum, and proceeded with the meeting in the sweltering heat, against a backâ€" drop of passing buses, blaring car radios from teenagers parked nearby, and the grinding wheels of the occaâ€" sional skateboarder. ZONING AMENDMENT Planning and Development chair, Jim Richards, told fellow directors that Town Council had approved a zoning amendment requested by the River Oaks Development Group Another problem facing MciIntosh was having enough members of the executive present to form a quorum. He responded that "ROAR had not taken an official position, but had it, the decision would probably be negative." McIntosh added that the River Oaks Group informed him that this will not be the last time it will be seeking this type of zoning amendâ€" ment. which would allow them to build a house on a buffer zone on Oxford Avenue. The Council would not approve a similar request by the corporation to build on a smaller buffer zone on Markle Drive, according to Richards. SUBDIVISION PROPOSAL Richards said the River Oaks Group had submitted to the Town of Oakville a development application NT YOUR ~ m 74 74A + SCHEEL TOURS SCHOOL Richards said that he escorted school trustee John Scheel on a threeâ€"hour tour of River Oaks Public School along with the principal, vice principal and a representative of the River Oaks Parent Teachers Association. 1993 American Dance Championships Dance Unique: Director Bob Caster is making plans to kick off a ROAR memberâ€" He added that Council approved the original application as a pilot proâ€" ject and the town wanted to see if it worked before considering requests for similar land development in Oakville. Ramsayâ€"Carnovale said her comâ€" mittee was also working on the New Years Eve party. She added that there will be limited babysitting available which will have to be booked when people buy their tickets. Like the Sixth Line project, garages will be built at the rear of the units and accessed from a rear public laneway. The directors passed a motion proposed by McIntosh that ROAR not be involved in any way with the bridge party should alcohol be served. The proposed subdivision will be built on 55 hectares located to the south of Hwy. 5, east of Towne Boulevard, north of River Glen Boulevard and west of the Oakdene lands. It will consist of 700 residential units, including detached, semiâ€" detached, multipleâ€"attached and lowâ€" rise apartment units. Richards stressed that he was not giving ROAR a recommendation on the school, but reporting his findings, which was his mandate. McIntosh made a motion that Richards follow up with Scheel to get his "short and long term feelings" on the school. The motion was defeated three to two. "This (issue) is long drawn out," said director Ralph Carnovale. "Our mandate is to deal with River Oaks residents as a whole rather than with individual groups." "This application is contrary to what the town agreed to," said Richards, who plans to keep a close eye on the issue on ROAR ‘s behalf. He said overall the tour was posiâ€" tive, and there was consensus after the meeting on two issues. "We agreed that once the students leave this school, there is no equivaâ€" lent program elsewhere," said Richards, "and as good as the proâ€" gram is considered to be, we were all in agreement that we don‘t want to see the program expanded to other schools if it would put a burden on the taxpayers." McIntosh was concerned about the possibility of alcohol being served at the opening, and ROAR‘s liability if there was a mishap. Among the events planned is a tugâ€"ofâ€"war between the two commuâ€" nities, said Ramsayâ€"Carnovale, and Town Councillor Sean Weir will be the leading the River Oaks team. for a subdivision similar to the Sixth Line project approved in 1992 and early 1993. Lesley Ramsayâ€"Carnovale, Social Committee chair, said she had met with Wendy Perkins of the Glen Abbey Residents Association and Town officials to finalize plans for a bridge party to mark the opening of the new Upper Middle Road bridge linking River Oaks with Glen Abbey.
