By TOM MICHIBATA Oakville Beaver staff Oakville Cycling Club member Tim Hadfield bagged a gold medal in the 100â€"kilometre team trial event at the Canadian national road cycling championship in Brandon, Man., last week. The 21â€"yearâ€"old Oakville native, who moved to Acton two years ago, teamed up with Erick Wohlberg of Sudbury, Darko Ficko of Toronto and Adam Walker of Calgary, Alta. to win in a time of two hours, nine minutes and seven seconds â€" just one second better than the secondâ€" place team from Alberta. Ironically, Walker was Alberta‘s fifth man, but because Ontario only had three riders, the parties agreed before the race Walker could ride for Ontario. Hadfield was ecstatic with winâ€" ning the team trial event for two reasons: 1) he and his teammates had never ridden together before, and, 2) he had little time to prepare for the event because he was invited to go only a week before. We had all ridden this event before but not all together...We just went out and did it as hard as we could and every effort counted.
