S 8: 5 3. ne lod< Until the economy began its steady downturn, Deronde was a very busy interior designer speâ€" cializing in corporate design, including such largeâ€"scale projects as McDonald‘s at SkyDome. In today‘s everâ€"tightening job market, flexibility can be the key to staying employed.Iroquois Ridge resident Pat Deronde is a case in point. Special to the North News By NANCY ALEXANDER Former interior designer turns her talents to children‘s clothing When the ecomomic realities Deronde says she used to be constantly frustrated when her children would go to their closets and want to dress themselves, because they would inevitably "I started off just sewing some pieces for my daughter, and I got a lot of comments, so I decided to give it a try," she says. "It‘s someâ€" thing I‘‘ve always wanted to do." In creating her children‘s wear, Deronde says she combined her design sense from her interior design background with her pracâ€" tical experience of clothing her own two children, ages four and eight. TOP QUALITY The brightly colored pieces which make up the new fall colâ€" lection are made from top quality fabrics including a heavy weight fleece, interlocking knits and a plaid flannel. Deronde has chosen to create her garments using a cotâ€" ton and synthetic blend which she feels offers better wear and less shrinkage. The result is Weebodies, a new line of children‘s clothing which Deronde says offers a completely coâ€"ordinated, foolproof, wardrobe system. Weebodies was launched in November,1992, and is being sold through home parties or through mail order only. of the ©‘90s took hold, Deronde found that the big design jobs were gradually drying up. Rather than sitting and waiting for the phone to ring, she decided to switch gears and turn her design talents in another direction. Weebodies The response to the business thus far has been very encouragâ€" ing, according to Deronde who had a film crew from CITYâ€"TV at her home to film the fashions for an upcoming show. Anyone wanting more informaâ€" tion about the Weebodies line can contact Pat Deronde at 844â€"1823. Deronde says the beauty of the system is that it can be purchased a piece at a time, and that every piece will coordinate to get the most for your dollar. A sixâ€"piece girl‘s wardrobe, for instance, sells for $135 and can be mixed and matched to create ten different looks. The tenâ€"piece wardrobe sells for $233 and can be used to create 35 different wardrobe looks. There is also a line for "tiny weebodies" which includes oveâ€" dralls, baggy "bloom" pants, a jumper, dress and a oneâ€"piece "baby sac‘. With that in mind, she set out to design a basic line of clothing which would coordinate down to the last piece. All of the clothing is created in bright, popular colors of red, purple, yellow and green with black and white pieces thrown in for contrast. The result, according to Deronde, is a "foolâ€" proof" wardrobe which looks great in any combination . MIX AND MATCH Deronde has deliberately kept her line small, relying on its mix and match potential to really stretch the wardrobe. In addition to basic sweatshirts, pants, turtleâ€" necks and leggings, she has added pieces such as a reversible miniâ€" skirt, a fleece jumper and dress, a cardigan which makes a great topâ€" per for the mini and a cosy, overâ€" sized, fleeceâ€"lined coat. never choose coordinating pieces.
