GARA annual meeting JK could push boards_»to the llmlts he budget process, the proâ€" I posed new high school site, k. _ and the upcoming implemenâ€" tation of junior kindergarten were the main issues of concern addressed at the Abbey Residents Association (GARA) Annual General Meeting on Wednesday night. "The provincial government won‘t announce the amount of grants they‘re going to give, so it makes it difficult to budget," explained Bryan Mcintyre, Ward 4 Trustee for the Halton Roman Catholic School Board. "The separate board is restrucâ€" turing both in board offices and in schools to cut costs due to the social contract. There will be a 4.75% higher pupil to teacher ratio and the Board wants input from ratepayers as to what they would like to see changed." Penny Siebert â€" a Ward 4 Trustee for the Halton Board of Education â€" said there were three issues which will be voted on in three weeks. The first is cancellation of the Bronte Creek project, a coâ€"op high school program matched one to one by the province. The second is technology renewal grants worth $300,000 matched two to one by the province, and the final issue is the computer grant cancellation with a value of $300,000. As for the controversial subject of junior kindergarten, Siebert told the audience â€" "The fight is over...the province has all the clout. Junior Kindergarten will go through." "Class sizes will increase due to Junior Kindergarten because we won‘t be able to hire new teachers, just remove them from other grades," said Bob Williams, Director of Education for the Halton Board of Education. "This is stupid because Halton doesn‘t need the program, but it‘s now law so we have no choice." Of particular concern to the resiâ€" dents of Glen Abbey is the land adjaâ€" cent to the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre which GARA and many resiâ€" dents feel is necessary for a new high school. However, Genstar has proâ€" posed to buy the land and develop it as residential properties. At this point, Siebert explained, "The Board doesn‘t have the money B _ to build the school and doesn‘t know when they would get the money from the province. The worst scenario I can see is finally getting approval from AKVILLE RT OCIETY SPRING CLASSIES 1994 For Adults: Pottery, Drawing, Watercolor, Oil/Acrylic, Problem Solving, Chinese Brush, Stained Glass For Children Teens: Pottery, Drawing, Painting Classes begin week of April 10th/94 Register by mail or in person MT: 10â€"4, WT: 1â€"4, Sat. 11â€"4 OAKVILLE ART SOCIETY P.O. And 85 new home sites are proposed for the Genstar lands which would stretch the school facilities even more. Siebert said there will be 1,200 students in Glen Abbey being bused to secondary schools by 1997 which will increase the need for a high school. Blakelock still has capacity, but within five years will be filled up, which is why the Ministry won‘t advance funds for a new school now. mmee ommc | ormion EBANCE Wtms SFJ ‘A64 LE â€" 299 SET50M . %?JEEN 319 SET 544 _ § KING 469 SET 78A 2 large storage drawers 490 SPEERS ROAD AVAILABLE MrAyAaAway "}:FEATURE' BED THE OAKVILLE ACNE CLINIC DEBBIE BADOWSKI, M.D., LINDA ZIMMERING, M.D., DENISE GRANT, M.D. are now accepting new patients.
