uP C62 For the community, the Hospital‘s expansion and redevelopment has been a "joint venture", with an enthusiastic community response to the Building Fund, the New Equipment Campaign, and other fundraising endeavours. The resulting facility will lead the Hospital into the 21st centuâ€" ry with updated diagnostic equipment and the best community hospital health care available. The construction project undertaken in three stages has been facilitated by Ellisâ€"Don. The first phase included the renovation and addition of Operating Rooms and a fiveâ€"storey nursing tower. This phase was completâ€" ed in January 1994, and 35 hospital beds that were located offâ€"site were relocated within the main building. This fall, the Hospital will move into the west wing, the fourâ€"storey patient care areas and the new 12â€"bed Intensive Care Unit. Administrative offices currently located in the old Oakvilleâ€"Trafailgar High School will move into the third floor of the Lawson Building. At last, the end is in sight! Oakvilleâ€"Trafalgar Memorial Hospital has moved into its third and final year of construction. The $49â€"million redevelopment and renovation proâ€" gram has produced many changes both inside and outside the Hospital. Now 80% complete, the scope of this enormous project has been the subâ€" ject of tremendous community interest and support. The renovation and construction is slated for completion by the summer of 1995. > Patients and visitors to the Hospital can now take advantage of the beauâ€" tifully renovated, spacious lobby complete with an expanded sitting area, a donor recognition wall, and the Auxiliary Gift Shop. Other redeveloped areas include the cafeteria, health records, medical library, pharmacy, kitchen, stores, operating rooms, and cardiology department. WHR The second phase of construction will include renovation of the Intensive Blueprint for a healthy future (tAâ€"â€" With the continued support and generosity of this community, Oakvilleâ€" Trafalgar Memorial Hospital will become one of the most advanced comâ€" munity general hospitals in southern Ontario within the next three years. The New Equipment Campaign has just surpassed its target of $3.5â€"milâ€" lion. These monies were donated by members of the community â€" individuâ€" als, businesses, the OTMH Auxiliary, local service clubs, staff, and physiâ€" cians at OTMH...all have worked diligently towards reaching their specific fundraising goals for OTMH. The last phase will include the addition of a 10â€"bed adolescent Psychiatry Unit along with the establishment of a 20â€"bed Rehabilitation Unit. Psychiatric Services which have always been split between two buildings will be consolâ€" idated on the Hospital‘s main floor. The balance of the medical and surgical floors will also be completed at this time. Adjacent to the 20â€"bed rehabilitation unit is a special roof deck for use by patients, visitors, and staff. It will add a "fresh" new dimension to patient care. In the future, the Hospital will pursue oncology and diabetic programs, health promotion, and the establishment of a rape crisis center. Longâ€"term priorities over the next five to ten years will include ongoing health promotion initiatives, fundraising and the pursuit and approval for chronic care services at OTMH. Renovations will provide patients and staff with some of the amenities that are missing from the old building. While no new beds have been added...patients will now recuperate in airâ€"conditioned comfort. On the nursâ€" ing floors, this renovation means proper tub rooms, equipment storage facilâ€" ities, medication cabinets, meeting rooms, updated nursing stations, and comfortable lounges for patients and visitors. Care Unit and Paediatrics. This second phase is scheduled for completion in August 1994.
