After spending the time at the seminar, I realized that it is a good idea to target the young people in my age group about the dangers involved in drinking and driving because it sets their minds against it long before they get their drivers licenses. I have learned through the semiâ€" nar and from viewing the video on the topic that drinking and driving accidents do not happen to just the "bad guys." It can happen to anyâ€" one! I know of a person firstâ€"hand who just happened to get drunk at the wrong time, the wrong place, and caused a fatal accident. He killed an older couple and a sixteenâ€" yearâ€"old girl in a TCC shelter. He is the owner of a prosperous business which is now rapidly going under as people find out who he is and what he has done. He, also, has a family of four children. Just a normal perâ€" son â€" Mr. Nice Guy â€" but in a split second he killed these people and ruined his life. This is all because of some alcohol and a total lack of judgment. This is what alcohol does to you. It removes your ability to make good judgments. This man, so everyone says, is a real nice guy and they are shocked at what has happened. Business people and friends are avoiding him. His life and the families of the people he killed are destroyed. So many innocent people were being killed by impaired drivers that a group of concerned and caring women formed a group and called themselves "MADD" â€" Mothers Against Drinking And Driving. They took action to open people‘s eyes to the dangers of drunken drivâ€" ing. These were women who had learned the hard way. Their sons and daughters had been killed in fatal accidents caused by drinking and driving. As well as raising pubâ€" lic awareness, these women are actâ€" ing as a support group for people who have been affected by drinking and driving. One of their major accomplishments was to lobby to change the law so the government would come down a lot harder than it used to on convicted impaired drivers. After attending the seminar and seeing the video, I know I never want to make the mistake of drinkâ€" ing and driving. I know that just one drink can impair your judgment. I know that I never want to get in a car with a driver who has had a drink. I know that if only we could reach all the young people with the information maybe we could make a difference. After all, we are the people who can make a difference. Why should you not drink and drive? Think about it. The answer is easy.
