He persuadâ€" ed his friend Dan to get a bass and work with him. "He pretty much pushed me into it," Dan recalls with a smile. For three years the two attempted to form bands but none lasted long enough to write and record demos. Frustrated that they had not been able to find a "solid" drummer, it was not until about seven months ago that they finally found the right person â€" Rich Schweltzer, drummer for Requiem before it broke up. "There‘s a very spontaneous feelâ€" ing within this band that I like," he says. We play what we feel." "We labelled our music ‘Rock N‘ Roll Infinity,‘ " says Dan. "It‘s very straightâ€"forward rock, not superâ€"techâ€" nical. Our songs aren‘t necessarily completely original, yet it‘s different from what‘s out there. "It‘s everything you‘ve heard before but put together in a unique way." Their demo tape with the tongueâ€" inâ€"cheek title Jizz... is currently in circulation. The fourâ€"song demo comâ€" piles the tracks ‘I Don‘t Care,‘ ‘Lonely Man,‘ ‘All I‘ve Wanted,‘ and ‘"Never Ending Story.‘ The Warhols are a m nomenon. Most of The Warhols‘ songs are products of jamming sessions, improâ€" visation that would be instrumental in the formation of the songs. "The band is named ‘The Warhols‘ because (artist) Andy Warhol was a very innovative personality. He brought about a style never seen before, putting common images together in his special way. That‘s what we‘re trying to do. We take what‘s already present in rock and blend these elements in an original manner." "We wrote all of our material as a group," adds Dan. "No single member visual arts such as theatre and film explains the complex texture of their instrumental parts. Dan explains: The Warhols Rock N IT 'Hf" hlakl Adam‘s taste in modern music lies with bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden and _ Smashing Pumpkins but cites Rush, The Police, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton as musical influences. Dan listens to Nine Inch Nails, while Rich‘s list of favorites includes Cracker, 54â€"40 and jazz. Part of The Warhols‘ style is that most of their songs are anthemic, relying heavily on guitarâ€"riffing and musical grandiosity to catch the lisâ€" tener‘s attention. So how do they incorporate such a diverse range of musical genres into a coherent sound? Dan offers this explanation: ""The people I listen to don‘t necesâ€" sarily represent what the band comâ€" poses. The bottom line is we‘re workâ€" ing together, which ends up in the songs eventually. ‘"When you start playing in a band, the influence is in the playing...but you become more and more affected by the people you‘re playing with." Adam agrees: "I find that as I go along, I become progressively less influenced by other players and start developing my own style." ‘‘For some reason, I tend to write many of the choruses." In terms of musical styles, The Warhols are true to the concept of ‘Rock N‘ Roll Infinity.‘ They have a large and assorted list of influences which some people might consider quite uneven. picks a song to write and record. It‘s a group effort. "The lyrics are dependent on who‘s singing what. Personally, I don‘t sit down to write lyrics. We just play along and all the while I make up lyrics in my head until they stick.
