McLean said he expects the trees and cabins will be removed and the area prepared for the sports fields by mid-August. He added that it will be maintained at the same standard the rest of the campus currently is. While the school was interested in increasing its property and sports fields, McLean said there was another motivation for purchasing the Cedar Croft land. The committees will work to bring issues concern­ ing the two groups forward. The success of area youth committees has led to the striking of the Halton Regional Youth Advisory Committee (HRYAC). Milton's Mike McVety and Jolene Theriault of Burlington appeared at a recent health and social ser­ vices meeting to showcase the concept. At the same meeting, longtime seniors advocate Helen Ferguson detailed the new plan of the already established Elderly Services Advisory Committee. Seniors need a strategic plan to get their issues on the table, said Ferguson. Those issues include senior abuse, a lack of afford­ able housing and caregiver burnout. "We hope that all of you will enter your senior years confident that these issues have been addressed, if not resolved," she said. To start the process, a seniors conference task force was struck earlier this year. Their job will be to study the issues with an eye to weeding out duplication in services, as well as service gaps. That information will then be filtered back to the Region. "We have to know what is useful information to you," said Ferguson. The freshly formed youth committee will provide a link with the municipal Mayor's youth Advisory Committees, said Theriault. It will also tackle many of the same issues that council does, including health and policing, she said. Their input can help the Region gain a new per­ spective, said Halton Chair Joyce Savoline, who met with representatives of the committee previously. "I want to say how impressed I am with the kind of issues they have brought forward," she said. "It's imperative we work with kids in our community so we can work in the future." Internet surveys will help the committee keep in touch with the pulse of Halton youth, said McVety. "Another thing we've really moved to get going is a web page with several questionnaires," he said. Along with bringing youth issues to the attention of the Region, the HRYAC will provide insight on how youth view current issues and events. That won the approval of Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale. "I think it's a wonderful outcrop from the local committees," she said.
