Councillors voted dur ing a planning and develop ment council meeting Feb. 12 to receive comments from the public concerning amendments to the North Oakville East and West Sec ondary Plans. Town staff said the Plan ning Act requires munici palities to review their offi cial plans every five years and council directed that the review be done with the goal of refining the vision of the North Oakville plans. "Our core vision for North Oakville entails resi dents having convenient access to services they need, including transit, a mix of jobs, local stores and services, as well as a full range of housing, from apartment buildings and townhouses to fully de tached homes," said Oak- ville Mayor Rob Burton. The proposed amend ments will come before council for approval in April. They focus on matters that need to be addressed in the short-term includ ing: • Trafalgar Urban Core Area - establishing mini mum densities and build ing heights to ensure the future viability o f planned higher order transit, such as bus rapid transit, as well as the required devel opment of a complete com munity. • Bonusing - clarifying the bonusing policies for Trafalgar and Dundas ur ban core areas where addi tional building height be yond the maximum may be permitted subject to a broader consideration of public benefits.? • Housing Mix Targets - providing for greater cer tainty in achieving a di verse range and a broader mix of housing types.? • Neighbourhood Com mercial Development - identifying lands to be protected for future retail and service commercial opportunities and provid ing policies for more via ble retail and commercial uses.? • Location o f Stormwa ter Management Facilities - prohibiting stormwater management facilities to be built within 100 metres of roads planned to carry transit in the urban core areas.? • Definitions - introduc ing definitions that com plement the revisions pro posed through these amendments and conform with provincial and re gional requirements. The North Oakville ar ea includes the lands north of Dundas Street and south o f Highway 407, between Ninth Line in the east and Tremaine Road in the west. CAPTAIN FIRE ' department' JOB. NEED ONE?
