The Santa letters are answered by the Grade 5 students, which gives the older students a chance "to see what it‘s like from an adult‘s point of view to answer kids‘ wishes," explains Haley. Canada Post has been very supportâ€" ive of this program, providing the school with a big, red mail box, as well as, authentic letter carrier bags. They have also written about Munn‘s Post in their newsletter and have told Haley that his school is the only one in Canada runâ€" ning such a program. To make sure all the primary kids receive at least one letter, Haley writes every student in Kindergarten to Grade 3, and he tries to write as many of the 290 students as possible in the three week period that the postal service operâ€" ates. "This gives me an opportunity to talk personally to the kids," he says. "I write to my: friends.about Christmas, about what they‘re going to get, and what they‘re going to do," says Elena Dejanovic, local postal union 1511 representative and a Grade 5 stuâ€" dent. In her union role, Dejanovic is responsible for making sure the employâ€" ees are happy. So far, there have been no disputes or strikes! Sunny Sandhu, a Grade 3 student, doesn‘t mind missing recess to perform her sorting duties. "It‘s better than going outside on a cold day," she says. three weeks before Christmas and last year, 3,000 letters were written and sent through. "People write love letters in Grade 3," says assistant manager Jeff Lewis, a Grade 5 student.
