V8 â€" THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Feb. 9, 1994 Claudio Serrao of The Zone run welcomes Angel Cervantes and The Grilled Pepper. Grilled Pepper moves into Zone ADVERTISING FEATURE by Don Wall There‘s a new look and a new feel to the Zone Run nightclub on Marlborough Court in north Oakville that has nothing to do with the nightly programming at the club. Since Dec. 29, a hardâ€"working gentleman named Angel Cervantes has been on the scene, running his own restaurant known as the Grilled Pepper out of the kitchen formerly operated by the club itself. In the intervening five weeks, Cervantes has slowly but surely been bringing in more and more customers who have taken to his wideâ€"ranging menu that includes typical restaurant fare such as pizza and chicken fingers but also a selection of unique internaâ€" tional dishes such as the Chimichanga and burritos. Claudio Serrao, 27, has operated the Zone Run with partner Mick Vescio for three years." We‘re not in the restaurant business, we couldn‘t take proper control of the kitchen, so we thought we‘d bring in someone to run it properly," he explained.â€" The club caters to the student crowd and the kitchen never served more than a few basics. By making a deal with an outsider, Serrao and Vescio figured they could take care of the kitchenâ€"management situation and also bring in some new faces during the day and evening be‘are the young night crowd poured in. Soâ€"they put an ad in a Toronto paper in October, had 50 phone calls and a dozen interviews and found Cervantes to be the best candidate. Cervantes, 29, is a native of Guatemala who came to Canada when he was 10 and has worked in Torontoâ€" area restaurants since he was 15. "I always wanted to own my own restauâ€" rant before I was 30, and now I‘ve) done it," he says. He and his wife Ki run Business Food Services whic owns the Grilled Pepper and a cafete ria in Scarborough. Cervantes specializes in Mexica food, with the aforementioned Chimichanga a favourite. Cervanteg says he loves to work with Mexica spices such as cumin and chili pow der, and notes that he makes all his own sauces such as salsa and teriya right on the premises. He also pre pares his own corn chips. Othe OAKVILLE SHIATSU AND MASSAGE THERAPY CENTRE TOM SWEETMAN RM.T, C.S.1. and Associate Therapists 125 Lakeshore Rd. E. Suite 304 (at Navy St., above Pier 1) 8453137 favourites are his souvlaki on a bun and his Zone burger. He says the flow of customers has been steadily picking up since midâ€" January as word of the good food, reaâ€" sonable prices and attention to cusâ€" tomer service has spread.
