A week and a half after being knocked out of the Provincial Junior "A" divisional finals against the Hamilton Kilty Bees, the Blades will be back on the ice this Easter Friday, 7:30 p.m. They‘re returning a favor by playing Oakville‘s own Maple Leaf Rangers â€" one of the country‘s top triple "AAA" midget hockey teams â€" who supplied several subs for the Blades throughout the year and who won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) championship and will be competing in the Air Canada Ontario regional championships in Ottawa from April 6â€"10. The match will not only help raise muchâ€"needed cash to pay for the team‘s postâ€"season success, but will also help keep them limbered up. The fun affair will also feature autographs and prizes. A couple of the midget players â€" including Marcel Kars, , Brent Strike, Bryan Bendig and Brent Davis â€" will have to take a second look to be sure they‘re in the right dressing room as they saw action with both teams throughout the year. Three teams at nationals The Oakville Skating Club is sending three teams â€" including two provincial champions â€" to the Canadian preciâ€" sion skating championships which get underway in Laval, Quebec this Friday. Although both the novice (12 to 15 years of age) and senior (12 years of age and up) won their respective provinâ€" cial championships, all three teams actually earned a trip to the nationals with strong performances at the Central Ontario Championships. There, the senior team led the way with a first place finish while the adult (age 21 and up, although 75 per cent of the team must be over 24 years of age) and novice teams both finish in second place (the top three teams advance). At the subsequent provincial championships, which had only pride on the line, there was no adult category. Rice is guest skater The Oakville Skating Club‘s annual ice show is such a big affair that it is held only once every two years. Practice and preparation is well underway for this year‘s massive production which will be held next weekend and will feature more than 430 skaters â€" including the club‘s nationâ€" alâ€"calibre precision skating teams â€" and be capped off by a visit from Oakville‘s own Sean Rice and his senior pairs partâ€" ner, Jodeyne Higgins. The pair placed third in the 1993 Canadian championships and 10th at the world championships.
