"We didn‘t always offer coffee and papers, but we‘ve introduced them in response to customer demand. If the customer wants it, we‘ll do it," he says. Mr. Lube used to be known for oil changes only, but in recent years they‘ve expanded their area of expertise to include transmisâ€" sion work, radiator flushes, and replacing headlights and windâ€" shield wipers. As you watch them work, you‘ll notice little touches that impress â€" they oil hinges and locks, check and fill tires, and wipe everything clean after they‘re finished. What may not be immediately evident is an automatic 21â€"point visual inspection that comes free with every oil change. All oil changes are guaranteed in writing, and warranty approved. At the Oakville location, manâ€" ager Harold Smith stops to share a joke with a one customer, and later stops what he‘s doing to install rubber tire inflation extensions for the owner of a recent model car with tricky wheel covers. The computer also allows each store to keep longterm service records for customers, and to check that each procedure is comâ€" plete. "Bring your 1995 car in now," Anderson suggests. The friendly staff members work quickly and efficiently, one helping the other as each phase of the service is completed. To become Hot Change Professionals, they undergo extensive inâ€"house training and field supervision, including annual refresher courses and programs to stay on top of new information. "We‘re very service oriented, because we realize how important it is for people to properly mainâ€" tain their cars. It‘s a major safety issue as well as a financial one," Anderson says. "Our computerized information system links us to all major manuâ€" facturers, which keeps us up to date on new recommendations." Oil filters and coolant are also recycled, and plastic oil bottles are donated to an Ontario firm which manufacturers plastic roadside curbing.
