According to Jim Stock, Oakville is at a crossroads stradâ€" dling the small town it once was and the cityâ€"sized community it will become. To help ensure it evolves into something we can all be proud of, the local businessman is hoping to win the local seat in Ward 4. _ As a director of the Glen Abbey Residents Association (GARA), Stock has worked with Town and Halton Board of Education staff on several imporâ€" tant planning and development issues. This proved to be a practiâ€" cal and valuable learning experiâ€" ence which Stock believes he is prepared to share. "Now I‘d like to put that knowledge to use for the people of Oakville," says the married father of two, who made up his mind to tun for office several years ago. Tax rates a big issue for _ man in Ward 4 local race Oakville Beaver Staff Stock believes the town is at a transition stage and while its Master Plan is a good one, he says care must be taken to make sure the social, athletic and educationâ€" al potential of the municipality is fully fleshed out. This includes libraries, swimming pools, schools and other facilities. The town‘s infrastructure‘ (roads, water mains etc.) must also be maintained and expanded to keep up. "I‘m very interested that this community mature and become a happy place to be," said Stock, a consulting professional engineer and member of the Oakville hamber of Commerce. As with most issues these days, Stock‘s hopes for Oakville hinge on money and its prudent use. He believes there is currently an imbalance between business and residential tax revenue, with homeowners paying the freight. Stock maintains the Town must vigorously pursue new business â€" particularly highâ€"tech industrial â€" and the expansion of existing ones. Part of the solution is to simplify the process required to settle down here. The benefits include an expanded tax base and Jim Stock also wants review of transit system 3y HOWARD MOZEL In this week‘s Kmart flyer the description of the ‘Casio‘ midâ€"size Keyboard on page 4 is incorrect. Stock is also calling for improvements to Oakville‘s tranâ€" sit system, namely a network that follows a more circular route and is less centred on the GO station. He suggests a task force be struck to also look into such matters as using different sizes of buses as a costâ€"cutting measure. a boost for employment.
