- Description
- Frank Charles Black (1893-1988)
During the 1960s and 70s, the arts scene in Georgetown was greatly enlivened by Frank Black. A well respected artist who had exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Black had been a colleague of the Group of Seven and shared their initial profession, commercial art. When he retired to Georgetown with his wife Lillian in the early 1950s, he was able to devote himself fully to his painting while teaching and mentoring many area artists.
A memorial bequest by Frank and Lillian Black enhanced the collection of the Halton Hills Public Library with close to 500 examples of his paintings, preparatory sketches and commercial artworks. A number of his original paintings are on permanent display in locations throughout the Halton Hills Public Library, Georgetown Branch. - Date of Publication
