The walk will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24 at Lions Valley Park, along Sixteen Mile Creek. The event raises much needed funds and aware- ness for the only women's shelter in Halton Region. Halton Women's Place provides shelter services for women and their dependent children in Halton. Last year more than 700 women and 400 children accessed its services as residential and/or community clients. Staff responded to 2,000 crisis calls. "We chose to support Halton Women's Place to help the brave women of our community who have made the very difficult decision to stop the cycle of violence by accessing this organization. The best thing that can happen to this event is that it will one day become redundant," said Peter Ramsden, owner of Ramsden Training. This year's walk will have both a five-kilometre rugged terrain walk and a new two-kilometre family fun walk. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Complimentary snacks will be pro- vided after the walk at the Niblick Pub in the Upper Oakville Shopping Centre, 1011 Upper Middle Rd., at Eighth Line. All participants will also receive a free T- shirt. Minimum $25 pledges are required to partici- pate in the event.
