O A K V IL L E « « « « O akville's " G oes Forw ard" with a New Visual Identity The motto, " avancez" or go forward, has I graced Oakville on the Town crest since the I 1960s. As "going forward" infers evolution I and change, the Town has created a new I visual identity to symbolize Oakville's move I into the new millennium. Through research and focus groups, it I became evident that a consistent visual I identity would assist the municipality in I distinguishing services, programs, and departments provided to residents. Such an identity would appear on Town signs, buildings, flags, Internet, and print materials to assist with clear communication to the community. A clear visual identity bearing the name " Oakville" , would also assist in efforts to globally market the Town as a place to visit, live, and do business. The result? Creation of a new visual symbol for the Town of Oakville -- one which conveys the open and inviting feel inherent within the values of this Town in serving its residents and businesses. I Over time, you will become familiar with this identity as it is introduced in a variety of ways throughout Oakville. Yet what exactly does the design mean? In an understated elegance, the modern stylized oak leaf, combined w ith the traditional style " O " , is symbolic of heritage mixed with the contemporary realities and aspirations of the new millennium. The circle represents the cycle of change, and the oak leaf illustrates both water and nature, symbolizing an active, natural growth. Blue I and gold, both vibrant, strong and rich I colours, w ill enhance O akville 's new I corporate identity. I To complement Oakville's new identity, the I Town's web site is currently undergoing a I major upgrade to become more interactive, I public-focused and issues orien ted . I Upcoming events,Town services, maps, and I the latest news are just a few features I earmarked for the new site.
