On Saturday, June 19th from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., O a k v i l l e Cemeteries and the Oakville Museum offer a guided tour of two historic Oakville cemeter ies, S t Jude's and Oakville St. Mary's. Participants will gather at the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate on Navy Street at 1 p.m., and board a bus for St. Jude's Cemetery. They will be joined on the tour by famous figures from Oakville's past including Town founder William Chisholm and his wife Rebecca and earlier settler, Esther Thomas. Points of inter est in St. Jude's Cemetery include Oakville's earliest gravestone (dated 1811, 16 years before the founding of Oakville), and " C l e o p a t r a ' s Needle," the tallest free standing mon ument in Oakville. The highlight of the tour of Oakville's St. Mary's Cemetery are the graves of William and Rebecca Chisholm. The Chisholm fam ily donated the five acres of land for Oakville St. Mary's Cemetery in 1858, the year after the incorporation of Oakville. Tickets for the event are $12 and the price, includes busing between sites and light refreshments. To reserve a ticket for the tour, call 338-4400. Tickets are also available at the Town Hall kiosk.
