11 Oakville Beaver Weekend Donations sought for Bronte Butterfly Project The Bronte Butterfly Project, involving the construc tion of a beautiful park for all seasons, is looking for donations from the public. "Imagine having your name on a piece of history," said project Executive Director Lee Bernard. "As we move towards the new millenium, so many people want to see their names etched in brick or metal- to provide a sense of permanence or to mark their place in our com munity. The response has been overwhelming." The Bronte Butterfly Project began as a dream of Bronte area merchants and residents, who wanted to cre ate a park suitable for both summer and winter enjoy ment. Local landscape architect Marius de Bruyn took the idea of a park and added his own unique spin; he added a butterfly. de Bruyn designed a garden shaped like a butterfly, with flower gardens for wings and water fountains in the antennae. Surrounding the butterfly is a rippling waterway whose pools would create a sense of serenity in the sum mer, but whose pathways would turn to ice in the winter, providing for ideal family skating. For a donation of $25 to $500, individuals and organi zations can have their names carved into the bricks build ing the project. For about $2,000, donors can purchase trees and benches and for higher sums, donors can buy formal and natural gardens, waterfountains, or even the Zamboni. If you are interested in volunteering for the project, or want to make a donation, call the Bronte Butterfly Project office at 905-825-2245 or visit the web pages found on the Bronte Village B.I.A. website at www.bron- tevillage.net.
