HU LOUS PANORAMIC LOOK for our FLYER TODAY'S PAPER Oakville Beaver Weekend Sunday June 6, 1999 Hot weather and Sangria a perfect combo mixture into a pitcher with a generous amount o f ice cubes. Blended in this fashion, Sangria is a drink that has about 6% alcohol, slightly more than beer. W hile some recipes call for some spirits, such as brandy, to be added, I would much rather drink it w ith out, and with less alcohol. Sangria is best drunk on its own as a refreshing cold summer drink and I doubt it very much if you can find any food that would go with it as a companion. W hile it is rather simple to m ix a Sangria, there may be a time when you cannot find any of the ingredients needed and a trip to your local liquor store would be much easier. The B O O N E 'S Sangria from California is probably found in the cooler section of your local store and sells for a reasonable $4.95 a bottle. I am not quite sure where Boone's W inery m ight be found, but I have some suspicion that they may be associated with Gallo of California. In any case, it is a pretty decent wine drink that could be made into som ething special if you add a few slices o f fresh fruit. With the onset of the hot summer season, the time has come to change from the heavy reds, that are best left now to accompany our meals, to the lighter white wines, or still better, a glass o f cool and fruity Sangria. Traditionally a drink that was served mostly to tourists in Spain, Sangria is ju s t as at hom e now in Canada, a patio cafe in A rgentina or in the seafood restaurants o f New England. L ight and fruity with a slight sw eetness, Sangria is a refreshing and low alcohol w ine-based drink that can be bought already mixed, but better still, it is simple enough to mix at home with some very basic ingredients. M ade with red wine, although I have used white wines ju st as successfully in the past, the wine is blend ed in equal proportions with citrus fruit ju ice such as lemonade or a blend of lime and orange juice. Simply pour the concoction into a large pitcher and add some thinly sliced fruits. Here anything will do although the original fruits used are slices of oranges and lime. For best results put the drink into your fridge for an hour or so in order for the fruit flavours to blend with the wine and then serve over ice. In my house, I usually think of Sangria at the same time I would like to drink it, so I simply pour the whole EBERSRAECHER Wine Cellar ALEX JOIN US THIS WEEKEND FOR THE GRAND OPENING LAUNCH OF BUILDING H • A fabulous setting on the wooded ridge overlooking doumtoum * Oakville and Sixteen Mile Creek Elegantly and luxuriously appointed suites with 9' ceilings Steps from the GO Train SUPERB 2 BEDROOM SUITES * Minutes from shopping, the harbour and the QEW J j r * Superb recreation facilities, including indoor pool, private park l™ and walking trails ~ J l * Price includes underground parking and 5 free appliances <U69900 (905)338-2800 M onday - Thursday; 12 p .m . - 6 p .m .
