NEWS W ard 4 Coun. Roger Lapworth resigns Resignation comes less than 7 months before municipal election Oakville's Ward 4 town Coun. Roger Lapworth has announced his resig­ nation from council effec­ tive March 30. In a brief press release the councillor noted he was departing for person­al reasons. "It is with much regret that I offer my resigna­ tion as town councillor for Ward 4," said Lap- worth."It has been an honour to serve the residents of Ward 4 these past 12 years, and I want to thank my council colleagues for their support during my Roger Lapworth photo Roger Lapworth time on council." Council will consider options to fill the vacant seat at its meeting on Tuesday, April 3. Under the Municipal Act, council must pass a motion to declare the seat to be vacant at its next meeting. An appointment to fill the vacancy must be made w ithin 60 days of de­ claring the seat to be va­ cant. The town's procedure for filling vacancies on council states that be­tween Jan. 1 of a regular election year and 90 days prior to voting day, the va­ cant position will be filled by appointment only. Oakville's municipal election will take place Oct. 22, 2018. Lapworth was first elected to Oakville coun­ cil in 2006. In addition to serving as town councillor for Ward 4, he has served on the boards of the Bronte BIA, the Oakville Hu­ mane Society and the Oakville Library during his tenure on council.
