In a report to council, presented Tues­ day, April 3, town staff noted that flooding during the spring, summer and fall of 2017 did hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to Oakville's shoreline and to the Bronte and Oakville harbours. "Lake levels last year were the highest they have been in about 100 years," said town chief administrative officer Ray Green. "As a result of the high water, there was considerable damage along our lakefront and also within the Sixteen Mile Creek. Lake levels did not recede until the late fall and it wasn't until the end of the year that we were able to assess the total damage that had occurred." While Green noted the full extend of the damage has yet to be determined, town staff have made a list of repairs considered critical and the costs involved. During the meeting town council voted to approve a 2018 restoration funding re­ quest of nearly $3.8 million. Of those funds about $2 million is need­ ed for lakefront public spaces restoration projects and slope stabilization. Town staff said the town's lakeside parks and trails suffered extensive dam­ age from erosion during the flooding peri­ od.
