Last week, a young mother walked through the doors of Kerr Street Mission desperate for support because she and her newborn were completely isolated and alone. She had little knowledge about how to raise an infant and no one to help her along the way. She feared having to navigate the challenges of parenthood on her own, until she heard about KSM. Thanks to the prenatal program at KSM, this young mother was able to learn important parenting skills like how to properly breastfeed, how to avoid choking when feeding, and how to deal with sickness and illness in infants. Through KSM's food market she was also able to provide nutritious meals, and vitamins for herself and her little one. Not only was she able to learn practical skills at KSM, she was also welcomed into a community of women in similar situations. This community of young moms meet weekly and they spend tome sharing a meal, sharing stories, sharing their struggles and their journey together. KSM is always here to help. Town staff noted that despite traffic calming initiatives and other measures speeding in school zones continues to be a common concern raised by par- ents/residents.
