NEWS Feedback from parents mixed, according to public board trustees • Continued from page 25 more evidence, one way or another," said Cipriano. If the HCDSB opts for a different PA Day than the public board, Cipriano not ed the estimated cost for student transportation will be between $40,000 and $45,000. The forthcoming report will contain two calendars - one with the Oct. 5 PA Day and the other with Oct. 22 - and two motions for the board to consider April 17. Trustee Anthony Quinn questioned the board's abil ity to accommodate the mu nicipalities' requests for the use of schools during the municipal election. Cipriano stated requests at all locations have been properly looked after and all schools have been "very accommodating." Diane Manton, City of Burlington manager of committee and election ser vices, delegated to the board on behalf of the Hal- ton-based clerks. "We are looking to build strong partnerships with both boards in Halton and we are hopeful we can con tinue to have positive dia logue with both boards," said Manton. "We're hopeful we can continue this engagement around election matters that concern the use of schools before and after election day." • Continued from page 24 the school," Jones said. "We make sure they have bath room breaks and so forth and they feel uncomfort able as well going into a washroom with a child. That perception is there." But HDSB trustees indi cated they have been get ting mixed responses from parents on the issue. "I, too, have received phone calls from constitu ents who are concerned about student safety on election days," trustee Amy Collard told the municipal staff. "I am hopeful that you will be able to find align ment between your wishes and that of the Catholic board and that we will be able to do the same here." Trustee Leah Reynolds says unlike Collard, she has only heard positive feedback from the commu nity regarding the issue. "I heard the reverse. People were supportive, teachers and parents, of en gaging their kids in the school day with the voting going on," she said. In the past, the HDSB has paid to hire security guards at all sites to ensure student safety on election day, director Stuart Miller noted. The HDSB will further discuss the topic, following conversation with the Hal ton Catholic board. • GET CONNECTED All our regional publications are online at insidehalton.com Shop the entire 2018 collection.
