List subject to change. v High seas $ adventure fundraiser Nineteen-year old Shauntha Boyd is holding a fundraising reception on Saturday featuring the work of local artist Susan Menzies to raise money for a high school adventure on the high seas. Boyd, who has sailed recreationally and competitively for 10 years, is enrolled in Class Afloat, a travel-work- study program which takes high school students around the world on a 188-foot Brigantine sailing vessel. The program costs $20,000 (US) for one semester. Boyd has raised almost two-thirds on her own and with the help of local sponsors. To help raise the bal­ ance of her tuition, Boyd is holding the fundraiser at 5 p.m. at the Oakville Yacht Squadron,! Forsythe Street. Refreshments will be served and Menzies will be on hand to autograph her work. Boyd sets sail this August on a one- semester voyage that will take her to Honolulu, Australia, Indonesia, Madagascar and South Africa. She recently completed her OAC studies at St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School and will take university preparation courses on board. Boyd will also work towards com­ pleting her seamanship papers at the end of the journey, completing the first step in a three-step process to becoming the captain of a ship.
