The evening is also a celebra­ tion of mayor Ann Mulvale's 50th birthday and her 10th year in office. Wellspring House, an inno­ vative treatment and support facil­ ity for cancer patients, will soon be a part of Oakville's Uptown Core Park. Tickets are $100 each. The Mayor's Reception, spon­ sored by Royal Bank, commences at 6:15 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. This "celebration of life" promises to be full of surprises and during her keynote address, Mulvale with reminisce about her highs and lows in office. Other sponsors of the evening include AstraZeneca, Canadian Airlines Employees Charitable Foundation, IVI Checkmate, Laidlaw, Mack Truck, Petro- Canada and SmithKline Beecham. The community itself has rallied behind this cause and more than half of the tickets have already been requested. The Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation is well known to those receiving treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital - 25% of whom are patients from west of Toronto. With Credit Valley Hospital now the designated cancer treat­ ment centre for Halton and Peel, a Wellspring satellite centre in Oakville is an ideal location. Wellspring was established in 1992 to help fill the void between the cancer care system and sup­ port services. At present, Wellspring is located in the non- institutional setting of a coach house in downtown Toronto. There, cancer patients and their families receive comfort, support, practical information and more. Funding comes from individual donations and from corporations and foundations. This assistance allows more than 30 programs - from art therapy to yoga and med­ itation - to be made available at no cost. There is also a lending library and programs for the chil­ dren of patients. The programs are open to all cancer patients regardless of where they live.
