May 18th for interested Halton high school stu dents. Teens, in Grades 11 to OAC, repre senting the region's high schools are expected to attend Reaching for Change -A ddressing Homophobia, at the Halton Regional Centre. Also expected to attend are 50 adults, including police, parents, health care pro fessionals and social service providers. The conference aims to discover and raise awareness of the needs and issues experienced by gay, lesbian and bisexual youth. It is being presented by the Halton Rape Crisis Centre, in partnership with the Halton Regional Health Department and Halton Regional Police Services. The workshop is being made possible by a grant from the Healthy Community Funding Consortium o f Halton. The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Keynote speaker, from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., will be David Brownstone, program co-ordinator for Central Toronto Youth Services. A student drama presentation will open the conference from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.; and two stu dents and a parent will share personal experiences from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m., fol lowed by workshops. Interested students are being asked to contact their guidance counsellor or stu dent services teacher to register for this conference. G as b a r ro b b er u se d k n ife in h e is t Detectives in Oakville seek help tracking down the knife-wielding thug responsible for the hold-up of a gas station last month. At 10:35 p.m., Wed., April 28th, a man bran dishing a knife entered the kiosk for the Petro Canada station on Upper Middle Rd. at Eighth Line. He demanded cash from the attendant. After receiving some cash, he ran south across Upper Middle Rd. Investigators think the culprit may have rid den away on a bicycle after leaving the station. The suspect was described to police as male, white, in his late teens or early twenties, 5 '5" (165 cm), with a stocky build and light brown hair. He wore a blue ball cap, a blue jacket, and partially covered his face with a scarf. If you can provide a name for a possible sus pect, Crime Stoppers is waiting for your call.
