- Advertisement for Shirriff’s ‘Good Morning’ Marmalade depicting sunrise over a small village. After serving in the First World War, Frank Black embarked on a successful commercial art career that lasted until his retirement in the 1950s. The Library Collection holds many examples of his work in the commercial art field which demonstrate his talents for creating eye-catching designs. Note here the use of hand lettering – for many decades this was a highly valued skill in the advertising art business, one which computer technology has made obsolete.
