Scott, who lived in Oak ville until he was 14, is a re nowned singer, songwriter, pianist and eighth place fi nalist on the 2009 season of American Idol. He is also the former voice student of Walton United Church's music di rector Linda Fletcher. In addition to playing his hit song Look Up! Scott will also talk about overcoming adversity. Blind from birth and a two-time kidney transplant recipient, Scott was first di agnosed with stage-four kidney failure at 19 years old. After becoming extreme ly ill, he began emergency dialysis. After a year on dialysis, Scott's college piano teach er's wife donated her kidney to Scott and saved his life. "Without that gift of life, I never would have been on American Idol, married my wife Christina, or been able to share my story with oth ers. It was a very humbling experience to say the least," said Mclntrye on his web site. It was less than a year lat er that he auditioned for American Idol. That kidney lasted for eight years, then in Septem ber 2014, Scott was put back on the transplant waiting list for a deceased-donor kidney. 0 4 . 2 2 2 □ 1 8 9 : 3 0 AM 0 1 1 : 0 0 AM S E R V I C E S L W ALTO NU N ITE D CH U R C H 2489 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, ON W a lto n U n ite d C hurch p h o to Former American Idol contestan Scott MacIntyre will perform and speak with congregation members at Walton United Church April 22. Several months later, an anonymous living donor stepped forward and offered to undergo compatibility testing after apparently hearing about Scott's need on the radio. In June 2015, Scott under went his second successful kidney transplant and has since made a full recovery. COMMUNITY Third South Asian festival Rang-e-Bahaar set for April 21 KEVIN NAGEL knagel@metroland.com Organizers are hoping Rang-e-Bahaar - the colours of spring - a South Asian spring bazaar and festival, will be come a can't-miss attraction in Oakville for years to come. This year's third such event, now an annual affair, is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, at St. Volodymyr Cultur al Centre at 1280 Dundas St. W. It will run from noon to 11 p.m. Many members of the Oakville community will be par ticipating in a celebration that features about 50 vendors displaying colourful traditional clothing, jewelry, henna and handicrafts, with snacks and entertainment also on the bill. While it should be especially appealing to the South Asian and Muslim communities, organizer Muneezah Ja- wad says it should be a fun time for people from any walk of life. "Last year we did a similar event which was very well received," she says. "We had over 1,500 documented visi tors." Jawad adds that the event promotes small businesses already in Oakville and could encourage new businesses to settle in the town. Similar festivals are held in Missis sauga, Brampton and Milton, but Jawad feel it is essential to celebrate a colourful heritage for all of Oakville to see. There is no entry fee and in addition to the food and vendors, there will be a free reptile show by Little Ray's Reptile Zoo as well as live performances. There will also be free raffles. "We want to strengthen the ties in Oakville between people of all faiths and beliefs and cultures," Jawad says. filmca "W Q ueen Elizabeth Park C ommunity and C ultural C entre 2302 Bridge Ro a d , O a k v ille O n t a r io L6L 2G6 General $8.501 Children & Seniors $6.501 All seats Tues $5.00 FILM.CA CINEMAS SH0WTIMES FOR APRIL 20-26 2018 NEW THIS WEEK: I FEEL PRETTY, SUPER TROOPERS 2, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (PG) THU: 7:00, 8:45 I FEEL PRETTY (14A) FRI: 11:10 AM, 1:30,4:15, 6:40, 9:10 SAT-THU: 1:30,4:15, 6:40, 9:10 SUPER TROOPERS 2 (14A) FRI: 11:00 AM, 1:15,4:00, 7:30, 9:45, SAT-THU: 1:15,4:00, 7:30, 9:45 RAMPAGE (14A) FRI: 10:45 AM, 12:50, 3:20, 7:00, 9:20 SAT-THU: 12:50, 3:20, 7:00, 9:20 A QUIET PLACE (14A) FRI - TUE: 1:00, 5:00, 6:50, 10:00 WED: 1:00, 5:00, 10:00, THU: 1:00, 5:00, 6:50, 10:00 READY PLAYER ONE (PG) FRI - SUN: 4:25, 7:15, 9:00 MON:4:25, 9:00, TUE:4:25, 7:15, 9:00 WED: 4:25, 7:15, 9:30, THU: 3:45 PM SHERLOCK GNOMES (PG) FRI THU: 3:00 PM PETER RABBIT (PG) SAT&SUN: 12:30,2:30 MON-THU: 1:20 PM 1 7 1 S p e e rs R o ad , O a k v ille (at Kerr St.) 9 0 5 -3 3 8 -6 3 9 7 (M EW S) w w w .f i lm .c a T H IS PAPER fV la c f lJ e i£ CyuvtaA JVgGSonGi A ll S ty le s , T e c h n iq u e & T h e o r y D a y t im e & E v e n in g T im e s A v a ila b le GIVE THE GIFT OF MUSIC R efer a Friend, Get One M onth FREE! 1 3 1 2 S p e e r s R d , O a k v i l le ( 9 0 5 ) 3 3 4 - 5 0 9 2 w w w .m g le s s o n s .c o m : STEPHEN MACNEIL ALL LEVELS HONS.B.A. P r iv a te a n d M u s ic 2 0 Y e a r s B e g in n e rs - A d v a n c e d : T e a c h in g in O a k v il le mailto:knagel@metroland.com http://www.film.ca http://www.mglessons.com
