The four papers - the Burlington Post, Milton Canadian Champion, Oakville Bea ver and Waterdown Flamborough Review - had nine top-three finishes and two ho nourable mentions on the night. Among them was a second-place show ing for Photographer of the Year for sea soned shutterbug Graham Paine for his work featured in the Champion. "The timing o f these shots indicates Graham Paine has a skill and patience lev el acquired through years of taking photos. Nicely done," noted the judge. He also took third for Best Spot News Photo for a church fire photo, while fellow Halton photographer Nikki Wesley earned second for a picture of a dancer in the Best Feature Photo category. Post reporter Tim Whitnell was recog nized with an honourable mention for Re porter o f the Year. Fellow Burlington reporters John Bkila and Kathy Yanchus placed second and third respectively for Best News Story for his coverage o f a fire that destroyed a local church and Feature Writing for her look at a group's impact on the history of local re cycling.
