SPORTS Oakville driver finishes third in completion of suspended race Hinchcliffe returns to IndyCar podium herb garbutt hgarbutt@metroland.com He had to wait an extra day, but James Hinchcliffe got his first podium of the season. The Oakville driver fin ished third at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of A la bama. The event took place Monday, after Sunday's race was suspended, at the Barber Motorsports Park. "Two cars in the top 10 after qualifying and then two cars in the top five in the race, so pretty proud of these boys and everyone on the Arrow Electronics car," said Hinchcliffe, who had teammate Robert Wickens finish right behind him in fourth. "It's good to get a couple o f Hondas up there, maybe not on the top step of the podium, but we took the rest o f it." Hinchcliffe has finished in the top 10 in all four races this season. He picked up 35 points for his podium fin- ish, giving him 118 for the season, leaving him just one point back of Sebastien Bourdais and Graham Ra- hal for third in the overall driver championship. The drivers completed 22 of the 82 laps Sunday be fore heavy rains caused dangerous driving condi tions, both in terms of vis ibility and pooling water on the track. Hinchcliffe was running fifth at the time. The rain returned late in the race Monday, and Hinchcliffe said that left teams guessing when, or if, they should come into the pits for rain tires. "We were driving around out there, and it's like, 'Right guys its getting wetter, it's getting wetter 'Wet enough for rains?' 'Nah, not wet enough for rains ...' 'Wet enough for rains?' 'Nah ...' 'Pit for rains.' 'Are you guys sure?' It was the right call for sure." It was the 15th podium finish of Hinchcliffe's ca reer and his first since his hometown race in Toronto last July. lacrosse Sykes, Tueei lead Oakville Buzz past Newmarket Buzz improve to 2-0 heading into Friday's Jr. B home opener herb garbutt hgarbutt@metroland.com Justin Sykes had three goals and five assists to lead the Oakville Buzz to a 13-3 win over the Newmar ket Saints.
