JULIE SLACK jslack@metroland.com Bree Taylor was born for the music industry and shares a kin dred connection to it. The Oakville native is a pop singer who is featured in the up coming RiseUp television series, to be distributed by AMG/Sony. RiseUp will introduce the world to the personalities, sights and sounds of artists of all genres and ages from Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The shows will be largely con structed from footage obtained during the massive undertaking of a 12-city tour starting May 20, in Victoria, B.C. and ending in Montreal on June 2. The spectacle is made even more insane by the mode of trans portation for the artists: they are travelling in a chartered bus to gether and going coast to coast, performing at shows along the way. The evening is hosted by hyp notist/magician, Roger Boucher, and will be approximately two- and-a-half hours each night. The footage collected from the shows, bus trip, hotels and adventures along the way, will be assembled into 12 episodes, with the goal of also highlighting each city along the way. It's intended to provide an ex ample of life in today's music in dustry, and also promote the beauty and landmarks of each city involved. For Taylor, 27, who uses her middle name as her stage name, music is in her blood - she was named after one of her dad's fa vourite musicians: James Taylor. After all, her dad's mixed tape was playing in the delivery room, and of course James Taylor was one of the artists whose tunes were being belted out. The Holy Trinity Secondary School graduate said having the chance to be on the show is a dream come true. Especially since she was so shy as a youngster. "I was very introverted and shy," she said. "It was awful, I was bullied so badly and was very shy because of that; I didn't think I had the talent to sing." So, she sang in her room at her family cottage in Peterborough, where she thought no one was lis tening. But her aunt, who happened to hear her singing one day, sug gested that she take vocal les sons, because she thought she had something. Indeed, she was correct. Known for her powerful, hon est lyrics she also writes dynamic melodies that express a range of emotions everyone can relate to. Writing and creating music has always been her way of ex pressing herself. She hit the Canadian music scene with her first single and music video Broken Dreams in 2016. Her most recent single, What You're Looking For has gained more than 20,000 YouTube views. Taylor said having the chance to be on the show is fantastic. "Oh my gosh, it's so exciting to be part of something like this es pecially when I've been in love with the industry for so long, and really seriously for the last cou ple of years," she said. "The con cept of seeing the artists all be hind the scenes - you don't usual ly get to see what artists go through - is really cool." She said the only concern she has is how to pack lightly. "I'm literally going to have to challenge myself, but I've got a plan and my stylist and I are plan ning an outfit for each stop." Other RiseUp locations are: Coquitlam, Kelowna, Revelstoke, Calgary, Edmonton, Windsor, London, Hamilton, Etobicoke and Peterborough.
