MOTHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE MS Society launches Carnation Campaign '99 Good things come in bunches and to prove it, Thursday, May 6th, will mark the launch of the 23rd annual MS M other's Day Carnation Campaign across Ontario. This intensive three-day, volunteer-based fundraiser runs from Thursday, May 6th to Saturday, May 8th. This year in Ontario alone, 2,500 MS Society volunteers, distinctively dressed in white aprons, will be seen at more than 950 sites selling carna tions to help raise $770,000 to fight MS. Since its inception in 1976, this annual event has raised over $30-million for the MS Society's national research program and local support ser vices programs for people with MS and their fam ilies. Over 150,000 bouquets bearing 3,750,000 beautiful blooms will be available to purchase. There are mini-carnations and large and small mixed bouquets in a wide variety of colours. Prices are $6 for one bouquet and $10 for two. Throughout the province, carnations will be sold at numerous locations including select shop ping malls, retail outlets, hospitals, schools, restaurants, churches, and service clubs. Selling hours are: Thursday, May 6th, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, May 7th, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, May 8th, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Across Canada, over 6,500 volunteers will participate in the MS Mother's Day Carnation Campaign, with the goal to raise over $2-million for the fight against MS. Since its founding 50 years ago, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada has been a leader in funding MS research and providing services to the over 50,000 people with MS throughout Canada. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that ran- Keep M other's Day memories alive On May §th, moms across Canada will receive more than 22-million greeting cards, making Mother's Day the third largest card-sending occa sion of the year. For many mothers, the artwork, poems, and special messages in these cards are mementos to save and cherish. To ensure that these cards stay in mint condition for years to come, Carlton Cards offers these tips: • To prevent cards from turning yellow over time, store them in acid-free boxes. These boxes can be purchased at most art supply stores. Or, if acid-free boxes are not available, wrap cards in acid-free paper or put them between acid-free art boards. Many art supply stores carry these. • As the collection grows, don't cram the cards into one box; use several smaller boxes instead. To guard against additional damage, keep at least one inch of space between the cards and the box. • Do not use cellophane tape, glue or rubber bands to secure cards. These fasteners will even tually deteriorate, causing damage to the cards. • On the back of each card, write the date it was received. If applicable, include the age of the child who sent it. This simple task will help keep mem ories fresh as years go by. Be sure to use a pencil - the graphite lead will last indefinitely and will not damage the paper. • Antique cards, such as those handed down from grandmother or great-grandmother, can be preserved in protective sleeves to protect the cards from humidity and damage caused by the sun or bright lights. Sleeves can be purchased at stores that sell photographic supplies. • Keep the collection in a dry space, free from direct light. For best results, the temperature of this storage place should remain constant. • To display and preserve the most treasured cards, consider professional framing. Ask for an acid-free mat and display the finished product away from direct sunlight. Give the of health (CMTA)-- Massage therapy treats injuries, relieves pain and promotes health.
