Saturday the event was Oshweken triumphs in Ladies' softball tourney marred by heavy rains wh i c h f o r c e d postponement of many of the scheduled contests 'till Sunday. The Oakville Ladies got off to a good start by- downing Goth Shell of Toronto 6-1 on Friday night. Saturday they met the Oakville junior CTC girls and beat the other local squad in the event by a count of 5-1. Sunday Oakville came up against the eventual winners, Oshwekan and lost by a 5-1 score. The girls took another win against Barrie 7-2 which put them into the semi-finals. The Ladies met high­ flying Tilsonburg in the match and the hard­ h i t t i n g t e a m overpowered them to take an 8-0 victory. In the first final match T i l s o n b u r g b a t t l e d Oshwekan and came away with a 3-0 shutout. Lifeguards win Minor Baseball standings Oakville sent two life guard teams to Richmond Hill on the weekend for th e L i f e g u a r d ; Competition Invitational Meet and came away with top honours at the event. Teams contest three areas of competition. The paddle board is a surf board which aids in rescuing. It is paddled with the arms and guided by the feet. The second phase of the competition is called s imula ted s i tuat ions which tests the lifeguards handling of an accident. The guard is rated on reaction time, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. The third area of competition is the medly r e l a y whi ch is a swimming test. Oakville regained the championship which they held in 1970 and 1971. Members of the team were Toos Simons, Barb Mi l n e , M i c h e l l e McDonald, Linda Meyer, Jan McAnuff, Sherry Hubbert, Bill Purdy (captain), Dave Hanson, S tew art M anchester, Dave Edwards (captain), Hank Bock and Wayne Flippance. In the second game the rigorous schedule took its toll on Tilsonburg as they had played five other games Sunday as a result of postponed Saturday matches. Oshwekan took a 4-2 win in the final game, aided by the excellent pitching of Bev Beaver. She also was chosen as the Most Va luable P i t c h e r in t he tournament. Others awards went to Dianne Linghor, of Tilsonburg, as best outfielder and best hitter, Winnie Thomas of Oshwekan won the best infielder trophy and Mary Berthlot of Barrie won the best catcher award. The awards for best hitter and best outfielder Dianne closely which went to Langhor were contested by the Oakville Ladies' ace centre fielder Kim Duncan. Had the Ladies made it into the finals her chances would have b e e n ^ excellent in capturing1 either or both of the trophies. Picking up the most valuable player for the Ladies was Norma Walter who plays short stop. The other Oakville team represented, the CTC girls did not chose a most valuable player as several of their players p u t in s t r o n g performances.
