Sheridan offers summer crafts Registrations are now being accepted for summer courses in woodworking, photo­ graphy and metal at the Sheridan College, School of Design in Mississauga. Summer Crafts '74 are offered to both practising craftsmen and beginners in co-operation with the Sheridan Community Services Division and the O n t a r i o C r a f t Foundation. Beginning June 30, a three-week course will be given in advanced woodworking for persons with experience and skill in a l l wo o d s h o p equipment. The course, which will be taught by Robert Strini, Master at Rhode Island School of Design, will explore all aspects of woodworking from laminating and bending techniques to surface finishing and problems o f woodworking. P h o t o g r a p h y for Craftsmen should appeal to the beginner or the advanced photographer whose interests are in the creative application of black and white and color techniques. S t u d e n t s a r e encouraged to use their own equipment, however, 35-mm equipment, studio and darkroom facilities will be made available during the session. The course runs for two weeks from July 28 until August 9 and will be taught by School of Design photography master Gernot Dick. Big Sisters get ready for annual Strawberry Tea The Oakvil le Big Sisters Association is readying itself for one of its biggest events of the year -- the annual Strawberry Tea, to be held this year at Appleby College on June 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. One of the highlights of the tea will be a fashion showing coordinated by the Shirley Jane Boutique which will get underway at 2 p.m. The show will feature exciting and wearable fashions from swim and sportswear to the latest evening looks. In addition, there will be a raffle for 20 pounds of T-Bone steak and a hibachi. There will also be a tea cup reader on hand, not to ment i on pl enty of strawberry shortcake, sherry and coffee. Tickets for the tea are $1.50 per person and are available at the door. In the case of rain, the tea will be moved indoors. The strawberry tea is a major fund-raising event for the Oakville Big Sisters, an organization designed to help young girls in need of a positive feminine influence in their lives.
