Oakville couldn't hold on to leads of 1-0 and 2-1. Goals were scored by Melissa Snedden and Allison Thompson. Assists went to Thompson, Amber King and Snedden. On March 28, the Hornets edged the Burlington Barracudas 1-0 in an exhibition game with Melissa Snedden scoring the lone goal, assisted by Amber King and Jackie Szarka. Charlotte Capaldo recorded the shutout. BRAMPTON TOURNEY The Hornets competed in the world's largest female hockey tourney in Brampton from April 1-4. With close to 400 teams, it provides an opportunity to play teams not normally faced. There were 16 teams in the atom-C division, in four divisions, with only the division winners advancing to the semifinals. And that's exactly what the Hornets accom plished. In their semifinal match, the Hornets faced Sarnia Starfire who were the strongest team the Hornets had faced all year, as strong as the B and BB-level teams they encountered. Sarnia prevailed 4-0 but the Hornets never gave up. Oakville opened the tourney with a 3-1 win. Amber King notched a pair o f goals and Melissa Snedden added a shorthanded marker. Assists went to Taylor Laughlin, Monique Kahnert and Megan Wanless. In game two against Massachusetts Nighthawks, Oakville rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game at 3-3. Allison Thompson scored the equalizer on a wild goalmouth scramble with goalie Charlotte Capaldo on the bench in favour o f a sixth attacker. Sarah Grigor also scored in the third period rally while Christine Allison put Oakville on the board, to tie the game at 1-1, midway through the second period. Assists went to Andrea McLaughlin and Katie Gorman. The key third game resulted in a 4-1 win for Oakville over Little Current from Manitoulin Island. The win, itself, wasn't enough for Oakville to advance. Under the point system, the Hornets also had to win two periods which they managed to do. They scored three goals in the first period, Little Current responded with one goal in the middle frame, and then the Hornets scored the crucial lone goal of the third period to win that period. It was a satisfying win, given that Little Current had rolled over the same two teams the Hornets had played by margins o f 7-2 and 7-0. Allison Thompson had two goals (including the lone marker o f the final frame credited to her after a Little Current player had directed it into her own net) and sin gle markers went to Amber King and Melissa Snedden. Assists went to Megan Wanless (2), Ashley Middleton, Andrea McLaughlin, Katie Gorman and Monique Kahnert.
